Wamala is a village as well as sub-parish that comprises 6 villages. Wamala is located in Wakiso district, Uganda. The areais experiencing a tropical climate with 2 rainny seasons ayear and has a savannah vegetation. The land is generally flat. The major economic activities carried out in the remote district areas are, Peasant farming, Boda-boda transporting, Vending, Petty sole trade and Booming commercial sex.The district is largely hited by poverty. This has brought about conditions like children dropping out of school due to lack of financial support. There are high levels of unemployment in the district especially in the villages.
In Wamala sub-parish what matters is one's own problem. Cases of young girls engaging into early marrriages are high. There is much ignorance and mis-information on Sexual Reproduction , Health so people practice risky sexual behaviours.In the inadiquate schools in the sub-parish, the syllabus on sexual reproduction health are under played. Parents find it awkward to answer questions asked by the youths and teenagers on Sexual Reproduction Health. Very many children especially girls below the age of 16 years are found to be experts of sexual behaviours because of the jagons they acquire practically out of ignorance and poverty. In Wamala commercial sex is booming, culprits smoke pipes, booze and bargain for sex the same way you would bargain with the market vendor for the best tomatoes in his stall. Red-eyed men and women sit under wooden bars sipping malwa, children playing in the drainage. Females sell there bodies as little as sh500/=
In Wakiso district, 45.1% females aged 15-49 have heard about HIV/AIDs below the district average of 70.4%. 70% are ignorant about the 'ABC' prevention of HIV transimission worse than the district average of 55.5%. 35.4% know that HIV can be transimitted through sex lower than the district's 51.5% aversge. 19.5% are aware that the virus can be transmitted through intercourse lower than 39.7% of the district's average. However with techinical analysis the disadvantaged population is out weighting the previllaged.
It is the Government concern for the welfare of children, teenagers and the youth especially with regard to their Sexual Reproductive Life and Academic Education.This should be seen in a high rate of school drop outs, teenager pregnancy, early sexual relationships and incidencies of HIV/AIDs among youth especially girls. According to the study conducted, 57% of the secondary going age is not in school due to poverty and lack financial support. The study showed that 40% of the female aged 14-30 years are pregnant. It was discovered that people aged 15-19 years are likeky to get inffected with HIV than males of the same age.
